No. You will be offered an accommodation list when you receive your letter of acceptance. The 1yr Foundation Course runs full time over 3 days, Monday-Wednesday, so students can work part time on their free days.
The 2yr Accelerated Course runs Monday-Friday with the occasional weekend rehearsal so you will be required to ensure you are available for your course.

You will be asked to prepare:

  • 2 contrasting monologues, 1 contemporary, 1 Shakespearian/Jacobean.
  • 2 contrasting songs, at least 1 musical theatre with piano accompaniment in your vocal range.

The audition process may last all day and could also include dance and acting workshops. The audition will also include an individual interview where you can ask questions.

Acting applicants will be offered a maximum of two audition dates in most cases.

We cannot accept applications from non-EU residents for our 1 yr Foundation Course or 2yr Accelerated Course unless you have UK residency with indefinite leave to remain or a visa that allows you to study for more than 6 months.

There is no upper age limit for any of our courses but you need to meet the minimum age requirement by the time the course starts which for the 1yr Foundation Course is 17yrs and for the 2yr Accelerated course is 18yrs.

The main focus at The Dorset School of Acting is to provide a vocational training to get actors work in the industry, rather than training students to get a degree. To this end we offer recognised diplomas that support the practical nature of the courses instead of a degree.
We understand that students may want a qualification as recognition for their achievements as such 2 yr and 1 yr Courses are certified as follows on the National Qualification Framework:

  • 2 yr Accelerated Course Level 6 Equivalent to a BA Hons Degree.
  • 1 yr Foundation Course Level 4 Equivalent to first year of BA Hons Degree.

All qualifications are validated by Trinity College London.

There is currently no funding for any 1yr Foundation course in the UK but you may be eligible for a Career Development Loan for our 2yr Accelerated Course.
