FAQ's

Answer

Yes!  We usually hold 2 official open days for our 2 year sixth form course in the Autumn term and these can usually be found on our drop down menu for ‘Professional full time training courses’.  We also offer our ‘Drama School for a Day’ event every year which can also be found on the same drop down menu, which is primarily aimed at students interested in our 1 year diploma course but is open to those aged 15 yrs+.  This day allows anyone in interested to participate in a whole day of DSA training and to get a feel of what drama school training in general is like.  You are required to fill in an application form for our ‘Drama School for a Day’ event and there is a very nominal fee but open days are just a ‘turn up’ event and are free to attend.

Answer

No. The School has an independent application process and applicants are asked to complete an online application and are required to send in video auditions during the process. Please see the relevant web pages for further information.

Answer

All applications are online and can be sent by clicking the apply button on the relevant course information page.

Answer

No. We only accept one application, per applicant, per year.

Answer

Applications are open for both the 1 yr  and 2 yr courses from the September the year before the commencement of the courses.  We do recommend getting applications in sooner rather than later if possible as we are a small school and places can fill up quickly.  We do always have a waiting list, though should any successful applicants withdraw.

Answer

Applications for both the 1 yr and 2 yr courses are accepted up to the August prior to commencement of term 1.

Answer

If you apply for the 1 yr course and intend to go onto further training on a BA course, you may require level 3 qualifications but as you will achieve a Level 4 qualification whilst on our course, many drama schools/Universities may accept this instead.

If you apply for our 2 yr course, you will need 5 GCSE’s grade 4 or above or equivalent to include English or Maths or both but this is a discretionary requirement.  If you do not obtain these grades, your application will still be considered.

Answer

Yes, we can offer deferments for both full time courses but we may ask for a new audition piece and any updates in information regarding education/work/acting experience that you may have achieved during that year along with any changes in personal details.

Answer

We are currently holding auditions via video which is free but if we do hold in person auditions, your audition fee for the 1 yr course will not be refunded if you do not attend your audition but we are happy to reschedule your audition within our available days.  There is no audition fee for the 2 yr course.

Answer

No. You will be offered an accommodation lists which vary from student halls (not attached to our school), host families and letting agents when you have accepted your place on the course. The other most popular way of finding accommodation is through HOMESTAY, an internationally recognised organisation that offers accommodation, meals and laundry service.  Alternatively ACCOMMODATIONFORSTUDENTS.COM has information about student accommodation available in all areas. Also, please do not hesitate to contact the school direct as we can liaise with relevant companies or individuals to help you find what you’re looking for.

Answer

The 1yr course and 2 yr course runs full time over 3 days, Monday-Wednesday, so students can work part time on their free days but any ad hoc course requirements including theatre visits outside Mon-Weds will need to take priority.

Answer

Both courses run Monday-Wednesday so there is opportunity to study other qualifications either in the evenings or on Thursdays & Fridays but if you are on the 2 yr course you will need to bear in mind that there will be some occasions where you will need to be on the site of our partner school, LeAF Studio which may fall on a Thursday or Friday.

Answer

If you are on our 2 yr course you will be able to re-sit your English and or Maths GCSE at our partner school, LeAF Studio.

Answer

Whilst we can accept applications from residents from overseas on our 1 year course we cannot offer a visa of any kind. You will be able to study on the 1 year course if you have UK residency with indefinite leave to remain or a visa that allows you to study for more than 6 months.  You also have the option to attend 6 months of the course on a visitors visa which almost all students should be permitted to gain and there may be options to to spend some time back in your country of origin during the course which may allow you to complete the full 9 months.

Whilst we can accept applications from overseas for our 2 year course, you will not receive government funding unless you have dual nationality and qualify.  Students who do not have this can still attend the course but will have to fund the course themselves which would approximately cost £5000 per year.

Answer

There is no upper age limit for our 1 Yr course but you need to meet the minimum age requirement by the time the course starts which, for the 1yr course is 17yrs.

The funding for the 2 yr course requires you to be 16,17 or 18 upon the commencement of the course in order to receive funding for both years.  You can attend the course at 19/20 years but you would have to fund the course yourself.

Answer

There is currently no funding for the 1yr course in the UK.

The 2 yr course is fully funded as long as you are 16,17 or 18 upon the commencement of the course so you can receive funding for both years.
