The Dorset School of Acting
Welcome to The Dorset School of Acting, a bold and fearless institution offering both educational and vocational training in acting, musical theatre, and theatre creation.
Founded in 2007 by James Bowden and Laura Roxburgh, both seasoned professional actors, the school was established to bring rigorous, authentic drama school training to the South Coast. With first-hand experience of the demands of the performing arts industry, James and Laura were determined to create a school where students of all ages could access professional level training and guidance.
While fostering a strong discipline and work ethic, the school’s philosophy remains rooted in nurturing individual talent and supporting students’ unique needs. Over the years, The Dorset School of Acting has developed its own signature approach to acting, “The Process” a method that is unique to the school and has been embraced by actors worldwide, from amateur performers to seasoned professionals.
Our alumni have gone on to perform professionally on stage, screen, and television, join actor agencies, and secure places at the UK’s most prestigious drama schools, including RADA, LAMDA, Royal Central, LIPA, ALRA, Rose Bruford, GSA, Italia Conti, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and East 15.
At the heart of DSA is an exceptional faculty of industry professionals who bring real-world experience into every class. The school is further supported by our distinguished patrons, Dame Harriet Walter and Rachel Tucker, reflecting our standing within the professional performing arts community.
The Dorset School of Acting is where passion meets professional training producing fearless, versatile performers ready for the stage, screen, and beyond.
